Rieker Digital Ball Bank

The Rieker digital ball bank is a digital inclinometer that can be used to assist in completing an engineering study to determine advisory speeds in curves.  The unit provides two measurements (right and left) of the degree of bank collected when passing through a curve.  The larger of these values collected for each data collection pass (multiple passes required) through a curve is recorded and averaged.  The resulting value is compared to the degree of ball bank specified by the MUTCD in Section 2C.08 to determine whether an advisory speed plaque is recommended or required.  A guide on the use of the digital ball bank is available here.
