This webinar includes two presentations. (1) Sign-Related Speed Studies: Many local agencies in Iowa are reviewing the placement of various speed-related signs along their roadways. Different studies may need to be made to determine what, if any changes in sign placement are required. This presentation will provide an overview of the different speed-related studies tied to the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and signing, such as spot speed, curve speed, and stopping sight distance. (2) Update on New Worker Safety Awareness Series: LTAP is developing and plans to offer a new Worker Safety Awareness workshop series. This presentation will provide an update on the progress and potential content (with some examples) of what is currently being planned to be an interactive discussion- and scenario-based workshop. The current objective of the workshop is to deliver real-world safety practices that help improved safety awareness, reduce workplace injuries, and strengthen organizational safety culture.
Speaker Bio
David Veneziano is the Safety Circuit Rider with the Iowa Local Technical Assistance Program (LTAP) at the Institute for Transportation at Iowa State University. He earned his PhD in transportation engineering from Iowa State University in 2006. He has 20 years of experience in various aspects of transportation training, outreach and research, including safety and operational analysis, winter maintenance applications, and intelligent transportation systems (ITS). This experience includes outreach and training activities focused on roadway signing and marking, safety treatments, roadside safety, and work zone flagging and safety.
Bret Hodne is a Technical Training Specialist with LTAP at the Institute for Transportation at Iowa State University. He has more than 35 years of public works and transportation leadership experience, and he has dedicated his career to advancing infrastructure management, workforce development, and organizational leadership. Bret began his public service career as an equipment operator with the City of West Des Moines and advanced through progressively responsible leadership positions, including nearly 20 years as a Public Works Director.
