Description

This two hour training will introduce participants to the Systemic Safety Project Selection Tool as well as give them an overview of why systemic screening is needed and the benefits of incorporating systemic screening into safety evaluations. Participants will be introduced to the four step systemic planning process and be given the chance to apply each step using case studies and exercises.

Goal

Upon successful completion of this module, participants will be able to describe systemic safety screening as well as highlight the need and benefits. Participants will be able to describe the three elements that make up the Systemic Safety Project selection tool. Participants will also be able to describe the objectives, data needs and apply the  process through exercises and examples for the steps of the systemic planning process element.

Participants should be able to do the following at the end of the webinar:
  • List the differences between systemic screening and other network screening methods
  • Describe the three elements that make up the Systemic Safety Project Selection Tool
  • Describe and apply the 4-step systemic planning process
  • Identify resources that are helpful in conducting systemic safety analysis

Speaker Bio

Nicole Oneyear is a Research Engineer at the Institute for Transportation (InTrans) at Iowa State University. Her research has focused on various safety topics including automated enforcement, rural curves, rural intersections, low cost safety countermeasures, local road safety and work zone safety. She also works with the National Center for Rural Road Safety helping to develop and provide training related to safety on rural roads including low cost safety improvements, maintenance and safety, and roadside safety.
