AutoCAD Basics

Description

This half day (4 hour) course will provide training to local agency staff in the use of AutoCAD. Participants will learn the basic concepts of the software together with applications in day-to-day tasks common to local agency engineering.  Training laptops will be provided for participants to use in following along with the practice exercises, or participants may bring their own (if AutoCAD 2019 or 2018 is installed).  Depending on the number of attendees, training laptops may be assigned to pairs of participants.

Attendance at this event is limited to local agency (County and City) staff and personnel.

8:30 a.m.    Setting up DWG files, importing survey and geospatial data

  • Navigating the Graphic User Interface
  • Setting up DWG templates/styles
  • Setting model space Geographic Coordinate System
  • Importing external imagery and shapefiles
  • Finding and utilizing web geospatial information
  • Importing and labeling survey point data

9:30 a.m.   3D modeling part I, surfaces and features lines

  • Importing surface data
  • Downloading and implementing LiDAR data
  • Modifying Surface Styles
  • Creating and modifying feature lines
  • Creating grading groups
  • Analyze earthwork cut/fill

10:30 a.m.  3D modeling part II, corridors and assemblies

  • Introduction to Alignments
  • Introduction to Profiles
  • Introduction to Assemblies
  • Introduction to Corridors
  • Generating Surfaces from Corridors

11:30 a.m.  Plan production, creating a plan set

  • Model space vs. paper space
  • Understanding plotting
  • Automating title sheets
  • Sheet set manager
  • Batch Plotting to PDF
