Web-Based Training Opportunities

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has a variety of National Highway Institute (NHI) web-based training (WBT) courses available free of charge. The links below offer a course catalogue and details about how to access the WBT courses.

Previously, the FHWA had also partnered with the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) to offer free courses to public employees in smaller jurisdictions and also with the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) to provide free courses through Technical Training Solutions (TTS). With those contracts now lapsed, and a time frame for reinstating unclear, those opportunities are not currently available. Iowa LTAP staff will continue to look for additional web-based opportunities and will add details about how to access free ITE and TTS courses should the contracts get renewed.

LTAP staff members are happy to provide additional information on the current offerings, or hear from users on what courses they’re interested in taking. Contact Keith Knapp at kknapp@iastate.edu with questions or to offer any feedback. Courses may also be eligible for Roads Scholar credits; contact Keith Knapp if interested in learning whether the courses are eligible.

Details about the NHI WBT offerings and how to access them are below.
