Description

The focus of this webinar will be a tool developed as part of a research project on cost-effectively recycling existing degraded granular surface materials. The tool allows engineers to mix existing roadway materials with fresh aggregates in optimized proportions to achieve a target gradation and plasticity that will maximize performance and durability. This spreadsheet-based tool has been distributed throughout Iowa and is available online.

Speaker Bio

Dr. Jeramy Ashlock is the R.L. Handy Associate Professor of Geotechnical Engineering at Iowa State University and president of Handy Geotechnical Instruments. He developed the automated version of the Borehole Shear Test device and has performed research on shallow and deep foundations, granular road stabilization, surface wave testing of soils and pavements, development of geotechnical field and laboratory test methods, dynamics of soils and foundations, and computational mechanics. In 2014, he received a National Science Foundation Faculty Early Career Development Program (CAREER) award to perform experimental and computational research on dynamics of pile groups. He previously served several terms as vice-chair and chair of ASTM Committee D18.09 on Cyclic and Dynamic Properties of Soils.
